The Middle East Forum invites you to a special event
Silenced! Censoring Public Discussion of Islam
Wednesday, November 14, 2018
12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Washington, D.C. (Capitol Hill)
The pattern is clear: Question Shari’a law – and find yourself banned from Facebook and Twitter. Criticize a radical imam, get fined. Call for limits on immigration, get fired. Plan a talk on female genital mutilation, get de-platformed.
Case-in-point: the UK’s Tommy Robinson – counter-Islamism activist, journalist, and lately a prison inmate and British symbol of censorship. Long a target of the UK authorities, Mr. Robinson this May was reporting on a rape-grooming trial involving Muslim defendants when he was arrested, tried, convicted, sentenced to 13 months prison, and jailed – all in the course of five hours.
Then, on August 1, none other than the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales threw out his conviction and released him from prison, citing lack of due process. A re-trial may follow, though the case is now in the hands of the country’s Attorney General.
Mr. Robinson will soon join the Middle East Forum in Washington for his first-ever American visit; or we hope he will do so, as his U.S. visa has not yet been issued. If he cannot travel, he will address our meeting via two-way video.
Others on the panel include Rebel Media commander Ezra Levant, MEF president Daniel Pipes, and a panel of those silenced for discussing Islamic issues.
Come learn about their travails as well as their plans to make their voices heard publicly to discuss issues crucial for the survival of democracy.
